The night sky fascinated me already when I was a young boy. At that time, photographing the sky was only possible with exotic films and taking a sharp picture was a skill, that I wasn't always able to. With digital cameras it is much easier, because modern sensors are a lot more sensitive than film and modern lenses are much sharper. With digital photography the results are immediately visible. Of course some post processing is still required to get the most out of the data.
Despite all the technology, taking photos of the night sky is also a very emotional experience. When taking photos, I'm often alone in the dark, sometimes cold, sometimes a bit scary, but quiet and with beautiful stars in the sky.
